The Mackie boards you mentioned have EQ's, that overload easy.
They get nasty.

I would get a Behringer Before a mackie. They have overload parameters, more likin to percussion. They do not squeel, when pushed.

The Mackie boards cost 1/4 of resale to make. Cheap electronics.

I just replaced a module in my SSL, a volume control cost more than the whole mackie console, because this is so much more precision. I think the B, is closer to the SSL, than the M.

Behringer uses better parts, and sounds better...esp. with percussion.
