Agree and disagree...

205.188.200.21

I agree with you that the Eq on the mackie sucks. It is the most unusable mislabeled thing I have ever seen. However, like you said- a module on your ssl cost more than the whole board- you get what you pay for. In the case of the mackie and the Behringer, you get a lot for what you pay.

As for the behringer, we ahve had this disagreement in the past- I think its a worse board. I have used a 1402 mackie and a copy behringer head to head many times (I have both in a small mobile system). Although I agree that the behringers eqs are slightly better, the preamps arent. The overall noise of the unit is worse and the power supply is of the poorest quality in the behringer. If you open one up you will find a circuit layout almost identical to the mackie (behringer even got sued and settled).

If I were suggesting a board and had a tiny amount more budget I would suggest an Allen and Heath or a soundcraft spirit. I like the layout of the allen and heath better but like the sound of both much more than either the m or b.

Or, if you can- buy an SSL, Neve, Neotek, Amek etc. ; )

Cheers- and as always welcome your comments
