It certianly cant hurt to try this digitally. I have heard many digital recordings of a celeste- which is also very quiet, and liked them. You will have a problem with hiss on an analog recording, but the trade might be worth it. That decision is for you to make. As for the mics, I stand by the recommendations. If you use a very good tube preamp, you will get some added righness in the overtones without the noise.
