I think we're getting two polarity issues mixed up here.In the digital domain, there are polarity switches on some DACs to change the polarity of the digital stream as it goes into the DAC for processing. I suspect this is related to the SACD postings although I've never been able to hear any differences messing around with this switch. Perhaps I don't have any program material that requires it....
In the analog domain, there's the question posed here about effects of changing the phase of both speakers at the same time. I suspect there are two religions about this, too. For myself, I've played around with this over the years but came to the conclusion that there's no difference. While I've met guys who claim to be able to hear the difference, I've never called them on it. For me, as long as the signal is time-coherent, in phase and full bandwidth, what's the problem, IMHO.
