I think it is one of those things where some people are sensitive to absolute polarity (subtle changes in the envelope perhaps) while most are not. Might be like these test strips I have where some people can taste a chemical on them (horribly bitter) while most cannot (my genetic makeup lacks the ability to taste it so they don't taste like anything to me).
