...my TACT RCS room corrector/preamp. This unit lets you digitally set the phase as ++, --, +- or -+. It takes effect immediately. After using this feature to change the phase during playback of many musical pieces I arrived to these conclusions:1) absolute phase changes don't do anything, i.e. going from ++ to -- or from -+ to +- (or vice versa) doesn't change the sound at all;
2) inverting the relative phase, i.e. going from ++ or -- TO +- or -+, DO change the imaging and the mid/bass response radically.
When using "correct phasing" (i.e. correct acoustic phasing in my setup/room) the stereo image is well defined, centered and extends fully between my 2 Newform R645 speakers. The bass is also full and deep.
With incorrect phasing the stereo image seems to hover outside the speakers (and more to the left un my case) and bass is not as plentiful.
