I have a NAS in the basement configured as my 'music server'. It streams over the network to various end-point network streamers in our home. It has no sound of its own and 'sounds' no different than my Mac Mini used as a 'music server' in the same way.Smaller Synology NAS on right is dedicated to running Roon Server software on it.
The larger NAS on left is for general purpose automated network backups.
