First of all, do I understand you correctly to be saying that you built a circlotron OTL with 56 "triodes" per channel (or 28 per phase on each chassis) and that it does not sound as good as your Krell amp when driving your Sound Lab speakers? A simple yes or no will do. If this is correct, what "triodes" did you use? Are you driving all 28 triodes per phase with a single section of a single driver tube? If so, realize that the driver sees all those output tubes in parallel, such that with 28 of them the input impedance may be quite low, even for a cathode-follower to drive, unless you've used a really robust and low-Z CF.
