A followup - Thanks, Guys!

I removed the shorting plugs as to not damage these fine amps. I was delusional when I believed the sound was not degraded with the plugs in place - it's obvious upon their removal.

I plan to send my preamp (a kit build) to an experienced tech to overhaul its grounding scheme, as I suspect this is where the problem lies.

There's no free lunch sometimes, and you all kept me from a foolish, band aid "fix".
