as far as the cause of the loss of gain, you are repeating what I and Frank already stated, in three different posts. The question is from whence comes the buzz? It was suggested to me by a knowledgable friend that the 6SN7 filaments in the older amps are derived from the HV transformer, i.e., the one that supplies the input and driver stages. Deriving the filament supply from the LV transformer (the output supply transformer) may ameliorate the buzz and therefore make it unnecessary to use shorting plugs in the RCA jacks.
