Cheers Ralph ,
Yep , I did try it already . Actually , I had very interesting results from doing it ...when I have noisy tubes in V1 or V2 , the Chassis linked to the Signal ground actually nulled the humm to near total quiet , BUT as son as I reloaded the amp with the two known quiet tubes ( 2 of 8 ) ...it was a disaster as you can imagine ..was like injectiong it with 50hz ripple .
Im picking that when I link to the chassis with a bad leakage tube , that im actually humbucking ( if I have the term correct ) ...with an out of phase 50 hz signal of similair strength , so as to cancel the ' apparent ' humm of 50hz . All in all , a very interesting experiment.
I naturally have not linked the chassis to the buss permanently , as I feel this is a sticking plaster fix ..when the tubes are the culprits , as can make the amps dead quiet with good tubes . No doubt someone will pipe up and say ...Hey why not DC filament ?? ...my answer to that is , more components , and I enjoy the build & love the outcome on AC when all is good . Perhaps a weak arguement but its nice to have so much AC connected and still have quiet amps ( some times ! )
