Had my first experience of sudden 6AS7 failure last night in my 12 tube MA-1s. I'm glad that I have zobels on my speaker terminals, they may have saved me some $$$ on speaker repairs. When I got to the amp after the noise, one output tube was glowing bright blue. I put the amp in standby mode and watched as the offending tube and its neighbor to the right filaments stopped glowing.
Popped in a pair of so-so replacements (I didn't want to risk two brand new Svetlanas if the problem was going to repeat itself) and fired it back up - didn't miss a beat!
So after this long winded tale of woe and redemption, my question is: Other than checking the bias and DC offset, should I pop the bottom off the amp and check/measure anything else?
TIA
