The resistors in the Circlotron have nothing to do with the phono. Those are two different things- sorry for the confusion.Yes, having lived with was 0.25mV is like with the MP-3, even the MP-3 is OK with that output. The MP-1s these days are even better.
50 ohms in series with the cathodes is enough to get the job done. The MP-3 does not use any as there are no paralleled sections.
I stand behind my comments about NOS tubes, not because they were always tested off the line but because 3-4 decades is plenty of time for the end users to have done that. Back in the 70s we routinely sent noisy tubes back since they were in warranty. We certainly were not the only ones who did that!! Where did those tubes go? -to customers that did not care about the noise or back in stock. Where are they now? Sitting in equipment that deserves better, after being advertised as quiet. They are not.
IOW, if you have any NOS tubes in the phono section of an Atma-Sphere preamp, that preamp will not be quiet the way we expect it to be. I can't tell you how many times we've had to deal with this issue over the years, and from people who should have known better!!
