As I have written repeatedly, Futterman amplifiers are NOT inherently flawed. I used several variants of a Futterman amplifier in several systems over about a 20 year period with zero problems. Ones I did not own, and which have been reported to be troublesome, include the Counterpoint SA4 (but they tried to make it a direct-coupled amplifier, not original Futterman output circuit), NYAL, KSS (also a mod on the original idea), probably a few others that I never heard of. Word of mouth suggests that KSSs are particularly combustible, but this may be unfair to say. I did own a custom-made pair of pure Futterman amps, built locally by a guy who was in consultation with Julius Futterman, several pair custom-made for me by Julius, Prodigy (the best-built and best-sounding), and one pair of Fouriers, which did not sound so good but were reliable in my hands. Transcendent amplifiers are basically Futterman types and are reported to be highly reliable. Never owned one, however. There is nothing wrong with the Futterman idea, just occasionally its execution and attempts to modify it. The unreliable products (and sadly some of the good ones, too) are all off the market at this time, and the companies are defunct.
