Lew,I don't know much about transformers or autoformers to give you an
accurate explanation. From my understanding, when you go for the
configuration I suggested, you are reducing the number of windings
where you have current flowing, so the intensity of the magnetic
field on the core will be smaller, resulting in a more linear power
transfer. However, as you get close to DC, I believe the transformer
inductance plays a role. If you reduce the number of windings, then
inductance will be smaller and less power is transfered from the
amplifier. Paul, am I right?Luis
