IMMV, but generally you are always better off when using a tube amp to have at least an 8 ohm speaker. In the case of the S-30, the only reason the amplifier even exists is because the SE Triode world has produced a number of speakers that make the amplifier practical. None of those speakers are 4 ohms as SETs don't do 4 ohms nearly as well as 8 or 16. The S-30 will be at a disadvantage on a 4 ohm speaker as well. Most people using 3as use larger amps like the M-60.-Ralph
