Yes i would agree if the corners of the speakers are radiused more than 1/2" then technically you can work the thinnest cherry verneer onto the turn.
However this will crack or pull off (looking like wear) after two years or so.
I would rather avoid the work if I can not be sure it will last. If needed it could be done and then sealed with epoxy.
