I would like to second the notion of black paint, especially high gloss black spray paint.
The cheap Home Depot variety they sell for 99c a can actually will make a nice glossy black piano/instrument style finish.
The other painful possibility is to cut the corner out altogether ( on your carefully adjusted tablesaw: I have done this, low blade, cut & turn, cut & turn), then glue in square molding of another color or other beautiful woodstock which you have precisely cut to match your corner cuts.
leave the chunks of molding extending out from the face of the boxes, the thickness of the veneer.
Then veneer have fun: Black Glossy is way easier: for an example look at the surprisingly good sounding Eventide Monitors on the web.
