It is not that uncommon to seemingly wire drivers out of phase. The crossover will change the relative phase of the units to the point where ~180 degree phase shifts in the wiring are required to recover alignment between the two (as in 2nd order crossover slopes, for example). It was probably done for good reason.
It will not hurt to temporarily reverse wire them to check the sound, so long as the crossover is still in use.
