Tannoy Gold 12's Woofer Phase?

Hey all,

I have a pair of Tannoy Gold 12's and I have a question for any of the experts here.

They are in a DIY enclosure that the previous owner made and I may not have noticed this issue but I did when I was replacing the stock (or old whatever) speaker wire connectors with new ones.

All of the stock connections and wireing are still as they were from the factory to the crossover, drivers and out to the speaker/amp connections and it seems as if the driver (when tested with a AA battery) when connected + side of battery to the RED wire, the driver moves inward instead of outward as normally any other driver would do.

It seems as if the previous owner also noticed this and just wired the red wire to the black speaker/amp connector and the black wire to the red speaker/amp connector.

Now I investigated this further and it seems as if you also just apply this voltage to the red/positive connector on the back of the actual driver it seems to carry out the same results like the woofer moves inward when voltage is applied (+ batt) to the red speaker lead. so it seems as if the driver has some kind of internal wiring issues at the voice coil, unless things are supposed to be this way.

Next, to investigate this even further, I carefully removed the cap to the tweet on the back of the driver just to see how the tweeter reacted with the same applied voltage. It seems that the tweeter reacts as it should meaning when the +Batt is applied to the red tweeter lead, the diaphram moves TOWARD the front of the speaker cone.

The 4 pin woofer wiring appears to be stock and matching with the wiring as I think it should, where the black connections are wired together and the two reda of the tweet and the woofer are separate other wires (red/green).

My question is should the woofer move opposite of the tweeter? Is this normal or should this be switched at the woofer thus correcting this phasing? My opinion is that the driver should move in the same direction as the tweeter, but I wanted to ask because it could be that tannoy meant for this to be because there is no signs of anything being miswired, unless the voice coil is incorrect.

It appears that BOTH drivers have this same trait, and I would like to know if anyone else has encountered this issue and what the correct wiring and phase should be. I am replacing some of the internal stuff now, so it would be easy to correct, just would like to know what "correct" is.

Thanks!
