Let alone what I call voicing. The things really are efficient and sensitive enough for passive losses - power and signal wise - to be audibly insignificant given half way decent bits. Esp. in blending Eq and pass band slopes.
If I were you I would follow the suggestion and try finding out about what's been done with more carefully designed passive xovers - for A7's as a family - using modern measurement - and THEN see if anyone has transferred this learning to active circuitry as yet.
I am not persuaded that an active xover, where typically:
only the xover point, gain on either side, and perhaps slopes for both HP and LP, are selectable, and that's it / no EQ, ...... part from asymmetric slopes and YOU'll be lucky finding even a DIY circuit.
That it will necessarily be better than a current 'DIY research' based passive, WITH Eq. built in.
Modelling the transfer function of a passive xover, is only a decent starting point!
You are also adding TWO more gain stages per channel - subject to self-noise and RFI and PSU issues, let alone the basic circuits own limitations, all of which are especially audible with HE spkrs.
It really all depends if you want to go active 'because it's just RIGHT! Timbo!??', or because you really know what is involved in getting there.

- there's a fair bit of Eq required to get A7's to their best,in the xover - active xovers mostly just don't have this! - Timbo in Oz 04:43:15 04/24/07 (0)
