I have not methodically compared SACD and CD layers on the same discs, but can tell you that String Section's description of the difference is right. You have the same impression if you listen to the LP's, suggesting it's a mastering technique. Cozart's work with Fine on Merc. was "in your face" more (Row 1-3) than Row 10-20 or balcony.
