I e-mailed Oppo on Monday about whether the 970 converts DSD to PCM for its analog outputs....and Oppo responded within 30 minutes saying that the 970 does convert DSD to PCM with its analog outputs (I am impressed by Oppo's honesty and quick customer service). I don't mind it if it sounds good....I currently use a Sony DVP-NS500V and I think it sounds very good. The comments on the 970's audio performance has generally been excellent, so even with the DSD to PCM conversion, it should be a good buy.I think I am more concerned about the playback issue involving works suck as Pink Floyd's DSOTM.
