Home Hi-Rez Highway

New high resolution SACD releases, players and technology.

OK, OK, let's calm down a little...

Hi. Due to all the fuss, I took out two of the Halos from the HT and plugged them with the Magneplanars, then with Silverlines and last with Kharmas (till around two in the morning, and with a back problem). The Halos are extremely good, but were not as transparent as the other amps. For example, the Symphonic Lines (comparinson due to both being solid state) were more at ease, more refined, more detailed, imaged better, and on huge transients (like the "hammer" in the last movement of Mahler's sixth, with MTT, SACD) felt that the SL had more power and control, the "hammer" sounding with more "meat" and more menacing. Again, this is not noticeable on a huge scale and somebody not familiar with the setup might say they sound the same. But I have lived with this system for quite a time and did notice the difference.

With the tube amps, forget it. The tubes trumped the Halos by miles.

So, in a sense Christine is rihgt: I do need to upgade the stereo systems to mch, using the same equipment I have now in order to preserve the "sound" I already have and like.

BTW already ordered the MET1 from my local dealer. The friend who has a Meitner setup is coming on the weekend with it so I can listen to them against my dCS. So, by next week I shall let you know what happened.

Happy listening!
