I'll take a stab at this since no one else has...I don't know about the Pioneer, but as far as I know the only two Sonys that have "tri-powered" DACs (Sony's terminology) are the SCD-XA777ES and the Sony SCD-XA9000ES.
The Sony DVP-NS999ES does not (or it least it isn't mentioned anywhere in any of the marketing spec sheets or the users manual). I hope this helps and maybe someone else will speak up if I am wrong.
