My Toshiba SD-9200 has a separate DAC for each of the 5.1 channels. When processing multichannel audio (DVD-Video or DVD-Audio), it uses a single DAC per channel. However, it appears to average the channels for stereo mode: 3 for the left and 3 for the right. I've modded my 9200 (details on the digital asylum) and it's the best redbook I've ever heard -- although I've never listened to any players or DACs over $1500. (The 9200 cost me $400, plus $200 in audiophile caps, diodes, etc.)Anyway, I was thinking of purchasing and modding either a Sony 999es or a Pioneer 59avi, so I could do SACD. I'm only interested in 2-channel. Does anyone know if these players average the multichannel DAC signals when playing in stereo SACD and redbook modes?
Many thanks.
Curt
