Cutting boards of the checkerboard type might work better because the bonded layers can add damping.You can end up experimenting quite a bit and not finding something that really works. But experimenting can be fun.
I ended up using the dense, reinforced shelf my cabinet provides, with two cones pointing down and one under the transport pointing up. Strangely, that make a clear difference. With no cones aiming up, the image focus was vague. But with more cones aiming up, there was a resonance or time smear in the midrange, as if standing waves were being set up in the chassis.
