Also the more "universal" a player, the more compromises

I learnt an interesting lesson designing my players - the more formats that I tried to support the more compromises I had to make.

My current 2ch only player will basically only play CDs, i've decided to abandon support for DVD-Video. DVD-Audio wasn't even a consideration, and it's not feasible for a hobbyist to build SA-CD players (apart from buying the eval reference board from Philips).

But that's not as limiting as it sounds, because it is a network media player as well, so there is support for high-resolution audio streamed over Ethernet (it will happily play up to 192kHz provided i manually switch the DAC clock via remote control beforehand - not very user friendly, I know, but I'm fanatical about reducing jitter).
