Watchdoc, changing out say a couple of resistors or capacitors can be done by any competent tech or no doubt, a very meticulous watch surgeon, if I may. When you get to the point where several glued on SMDs are to be replaced. Then it is better to leave it to someone who has the work station necessary and the experience, to do such work. In some cases it is required to heat up the entire IC to a temp of a pretty tight tolerance. If not properly done, pads can stick to the chip, they can break off... You name it. Allen's concern may also be that if and when someone decides to go this deep and get his advice on how to do it, that they may ask him to fix what they had damaged. I have pretty coordinated hands, but I will definately draw the line on what I personally intend getting into. Say a 1940s Hamilton watch.
