Allen,
I have a BAT VKP10 phono stage, presently set at 47K with the Helikon. I'm using a TNT III and a Graham 1.5tc, on a custom 200 lb. sand- isolated plith. No doubt there are better vinyl rigs out there, but mine is no slouch.I've never heard the VSE L5. I only know that after replacing the SCD-1's output stage with silver transformers, I was able to coax out another 50% improvement by powering the CDP on SLA batteries and replacing SMT components in the transport signal path with teflon caps and better resistors. The batteries blew away everything I had previously done with power replacing power board diodes, caps, and regulators with best AC/DC pieces I could find.
Yes the SACD performance of this deck is a cut above the RBCD. But not as much as you'd think, and the RBCD is now miles ahead of the modded unit's SACD sound prior to the battery conversion. And besides, where can I get the latest Wayne Shorter, Charlie Haden, Dave Douglas, Rosanne Cash, Richard Thompson & Pearl Jam on SACD???
Dave
