The spindle motor on my first CD player was huge - it looks like it might be able to fly a model airplane. I have no doubt it would have no issues playing DualDiscs, maybe even 2 or 3 DualDiscs stacked on top of each other.The failed motor on my player is tiny - no bigger than an Australian 20 cents coin. It doesn't seem to be powerful enough to spin normal discs, and in hindsight, it wasn't.
I think the days of over-engineered parts for mass market players are long gone.
