Panny DVD-A Doesn't Wanna Play

My Panasonic CP-72s is connected to an Onkyo TX-SR304S. I have played at least a hundred different DVDs with this setup, never a problem getting surround (DD). Now I'm buying DVD-A discs (late adopter) and NONE of them are coming out in surround. They play in 2ch hi def mode 96K/24 bit or something like that if its available on the disc, but never surround. Is there something in the setup a DVD player to get it to output surround when there's a DVD-A? Never had to with regular DVDs...
