I just took the plunge and purchased my first DVD-A. Hotel California. I believe it had every possible combination of playback so I can listen now as well as when I purchase a different player. Since I only have a DVD video player, I could at least listen to the AC3 5.1 and DTS 5.1 versions. It sounded good, but I am not sure I am that enthralled with M-C. The rear tracks seemed distracting but not unpleasant. Probably because I am used to listening to music through the front channels only. Another question. Since I am going to place the new player in my two channel system will I need a monitor attached to navigate to the 2 channel version? I believe I heard the default was M-C. Is there any way to navigate the menus without a monitor? That will rule out DVD-A for the new system.
