I'm looking for a turntable with at least an auto lift feature for the end of the record. The SL-1500C appears to be a sound new option that is within my budget for this system, so I thought I'd check on the Asylum to see if anyone has owned or auditioned one.
Alternative suggestions are naturally always welcome by those who've owned something they'd recommend, but I've done a lot of searches and this one comes up on top, on paper at least, even though many don't like the cheap feeling arm lift lever. Auto lift is essential in this system because of a physical disability.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I'm not really looking at vintage tables. I had an SL-1301 I bought from Volunteer (Wendell), RIP, years ago and a Philips 877 I got from a guy on Craig's List even more years ago. Both served me well but are no longer fully working or reasonable to repair.

Turns out my friend was able to correct the speed on the Technics SL-1301 I bought from Wendell Narrod / Volunteer after all. So the search for a replacement table for my study is over and the quirky Philips 877 will move into backup mode for now. After I paid a local pro a chunk of change with no luck, and then my friend gave it a shot with a repair kit off of eBay, also with no luck, my friend sent me the following text: "I contacted the guy on eBay who sold the capacitor kit, told him I'd installed it and didn't solve problem, he said "clean this variable resistor" and it worked."
Speed is about dead on and very stable. It sounds fantastic with a 1978 vintage AT13ea cart / LPGear replacement stylus, and set up using only the Technics plastic guide for now. Further alignment tweaking (and maybe a stylus upgrade from Joseph Long @groovetickler) might be next.
But boy am I enjoying it and happy not to keep chasing a replacement. Thanks again Volunteer - you live on in Chez JoshT through your table!

I can't say about the 1500 but I'll bet it's good at the right price and condition.
I'll recommend the Mitsubishi Linear Tracker LT22. It spoils you.
how about also considering the Technics SL-7 or 10? Possibly more available and lots of advice and maintenance tips on Vinyl Engine.

That's a beautiful looking table with great user reviews.
And I also love that the controls are easily accessible in the front. I had an old NAD deck that was fully auto with front mounted controls. I wish more table manufacturers would do that, even with manual tables.
I'm just not comfortable taking on something that might need near term maintenance.

I bought it used.
It's worked used for 8 years ever since. I'm lucky I guess. Previous Owner included the complete setup guide.
Worth taking a look for it - used. Shop around
first I have heard about Volunteer. I remember him posting about his wife's passing about 3 years ago. Thanks for posting his passing, and he was a welcome poster for years.
He and I became Facebook friends about 8 years ago. About a year ago I was wondering why I hadn't seen any posts from him and checked his FB page and found the announcement and some nice stories about him from his friends and family. IIRC, his death was unexpected and rather sudden. I know he was an avowed atheist, but I hope he and his wife and son are somewhere together again.
You're right about the archive. I should have checked first and thanks for directing me there. I'd love to get an update from a long term owner now that the table's been out for about 5 years. I do wonder about that auto lift mechanism's longevity since its just a built in spring lift.

Have you read anything on the reliability of the return mechanism? It's not rated well on the 100C.A fully automatic table I've looked at is the Pro-Ject Automat A2 (not the A1). The price is keeping me away, but it may not affect its attractiveness for you since the Technics turntables are not cheap.
If you're looking for arm lift at the end of a record, you may want to consider another table & an arm lifter, such as a Little Fwend or an AT-6006R. Be aware that a lot of tables may not have the room for a lifter.
Good luck.

I used a device called the Q up, only when I used it it was a thorens branded device, for many years. the problem with that type of deal is that every time you play a record, regardless of the occasion , you have to set the device to trigger, otherwise the stylus is pushed sideways at end of play. .
I doubt a person with particular physical needs would enjoy such a situation.
I use a Q-Up. A helpful & woefully overpriced device. Reliable, but cheap-looking & feeling. I'd love to upgrade the lifter, but that requires a new table, which isn't in the cards right now.

For whatever reason, the SL-100C seems to garner far more complaints about the auto lift mechanism than the SL-1500C.
I can think of no technical reason why that might be, BUT I did just learn from SkyFi Audio in NJ that the SL-100C is reserved for big box stores and pro audio dealers, so home audio oriented dealers are only able to offer the SL-1500C. That makes me wonder if Technics's QC is better for the SL1500C than for the 100C or if it's just customer demographics accounting for different expectations.
I'll take a look at the Project Automat A2. Thanks for the tip.
