I'm not prepared to try and pull them out of the sockets until I obtain a "tube puller". The tuner looks in fairly good shape considering it's age, but I hope to restore it and am being very cautious.
Would not suprise me if the sockets - or any of the components actually - broke or crumbled when disassembling.
And I do not have access to a tube tester so probably will only be able to test for shorts once I do get them removed.

A tube puller, if what you mentioned is what I'm thinking of, will pull all that white lettering off the tube...- My understanding is those were made to pull hot tubes from running equipment - in your case just using your fingers or gloved fingers will remove the tube and preserve the printing if you're careful...-
Just grab it near the base and gently rock back & forth a bit while pulling it upwards. You don't need a tube puller.
