Industries tends to copy others I am a bit curious here
Since both Denon Mg-X and Sony metal master "Design" Look a bit same
Who was First Denon Mg-X or Sony Metal master?
Also i doubt Sony was First out with expensive Metal tapes
Tdk Ma-R metal already came in 1981 and Tdk Ma-XG in 1986
Sony didnt release some expensive metal until Sony metal master (1992?)
Also Sony always released to compete with others
Like when TDK released Ma-XG sony released Metal master
and talking about Minidisc when TDK released XA-Pro Sony released Md2000
Is like SONY did lot of pro stuff but only after others like TDk did it.
Ok so we have Denon Mg-X and Sony metal master both made of ceramic composite only a slight difference in the design.
Who was first Denon or Sony?
I belive Denon but does any have the dates
Denon Mg-X or sony metal master came in production?
I only know that TDK Ma-R was 1981 and TDK MA-XG 1986 (updated in 1991)
and the Taiyo yuden souno i think from around 1992
I know Super metal master (Update to metal master) was released in 1994/1995 so metal master must be from 1991-1993?
Any ideas?
Follow Ups:
I'm trying to remember, but I think I got my Sony Metal Master in 1990 or 1991. It was a brand new product given to me by a Sony rep.
To say "Also Sony always released to compete with others", is completely incorrect. Sony's list of industry firsts is as long or longer than any other manufacturer. Remember that Sony has always had a hard-core professional line of products, many of which utilized cutting edge technologies developed in-house by Sony. Much of this, of course, filtered down into consumer and semi-professional products.
Having said this, I have a lot of respect for TDK, and to this day I am still a huge fan of their products.
Sony Metal Master was released in 1987, and Super metal master came into existence in 1993.
Yes I know Sony was First in inovation creeating walkmans , discman etc...
What i meant was about Recording media and tapes which i recall Sony did copy other tape brands but yea they also inovated.
I did just get the impression that Sony always tried to copy Tdk
special in the metal tapes, with copy i dont mean cloning Sony did came up with their own idea "metal master Vs Ma-xg" but Sometimes Sony got the push from others maybe is more inspiration than copying.
and as i said Sony did invent lot of things if we talk about walkman, discman etc...
Funny thing is I don't recall seeing Denon's version till the late 90s when all metal tapes were discontinued. Denon always had HD-M tapes, but the ceramic version wasn't around all that long. Someone may have better info though.
Intressing about the Denon MG-X could it be Denon was released After Sony metal master?
Since it does not has a Slim-case i doubt it was released in midth 90s
not having seen it in the shop dosnt mean it existed.
For example i didnt see the Tdk Ma-XG(1991ver) in shop in my area until 1994-95.
Could also be that Denon tapes was not so known as Sony and Tdk.
Also strange that Fuji didnt have expensive metal tapes.
Maxell had vertex, Sony metal master, Tdk had ma-xg, denon MG-X but Fuji only had inexpensive metal tapes ?
I don't remember there being any super fancy Fuji tapes. But if there were, my guess is that they were released in Japan only. Maybe?
AXIA (Fuji):
HD-MASTER
SD-MASTER
XD-MASTER
only for Japanese market
The Axia Master design quality is far bellow Sony and Tdk.
First this XD Master photo is impressive look a bit like the Silver looking Tdk Ma-xg from 1986;
Axia Xd Master:

Axia HD master look similar:

Then when I look at this picture of SD master (similar to Xd and sd?)
It look like a cheap Silver painting that peel off after use (no good):
See SD master:

Now If anyone could post a Big Close up of the Xd and SD Tape
i would apreciate it.
But my opinion is that Fuji Never made Expensive quality metal tapes
as Sony, Tdk, Maxell and Denon did.
I would rather compare the Axia XD/SD/HD tapes with Teac open reel casette
as for the quality of the material.
Now i wouldnt mind buying 1 or 2 of those Axia XD/HD tapes
The most expensive tape i got from Fuji is the Fuji JP metal (1992) and the Fuji Z metal (1994/1996)
