Very cool.I just got through replacing the (cork) brakes on my Technics RS 1500US, they were very thin, and although they did work with 7" reels, they would often allow enough slip to allow the turn-off switch to engage. At that point I would have to wind a reel up enough to engage the switch.
Now they work fine, although like your Otari, I need to adjust the brake tension.

Now you need to tell us if you are making recordings, or at least playing them.
If I remember, your deck is half track only, so unless you buy a "The Tape Project" selection, your going to be making your own. Mine, however, will record and play 1/2 track, but play only 1/4 track. Next, I need to find the other head stack, the one that plays and records 1/4 track, and plays only 1/2 track. Best of both worlds.

It has the 2/4 track switch but I have no (7") tape to try it yet. None of the three Otari's has the hubs for 10" reels. I need to also get a scale to set the proper tension on the pinch roller. No rush.
