This Audiogon member with lots of positive feedback sells counterfeit Siltech cables that are made in China, not in the Netherlands. You can tell because the serial numbers have 8 digits. Genuine Siltech cables have 7 digits in the serial numbers.I have verified this with the Siltech factory. Attempts to contact Pete via phone and email are now going unanswered. I sold 2 of the 7 pairs I bought from Pete and, upon finding out the truth about the cables' origin, immediately offered full refunds to my buyers. One responded,

I am a trusting person, but have been a little foggy since a concussion that I sustained while skiing at the beginning of March made me unconscious for about 6 hours. I bought over $6000 from this person to help him pay medical bills. Yeah, I’m a sucker. All the signs of a rip-off were there, but I simply didn’t connect the dots. My bad.
I have filed the appropriate complaints/disputes with Audiogon, PayPal, and my credit card company. I hope he does not make you his next victim!
Suggestion: If using PayPal, always mark the transaction "goods", NOT "personal" no matter how warm and fuzzy the seller makes you feel.

I had a transaction several years ago with a Peter Kranz on AudiogoN. He went by user name pekr. I'm not sure if it's the same person, however he shortchanged me on the transaction and never made good. I believe he stated he was an invalid.
They go to extremes to copy the real product and often the item will work. Many think they have the real thing until something fails. It is so bad that fake high pressure pipes often fail in China as they are fakes. Legitimate companies there have to be very careful with anything they need.
Often it is impossible to tell where the seller is until you get a package from China, HK, or Taiwan.
Having lived in China for 4 of last 6 months, I can relate that even the fakes are fakes. G*d only knows what they sell to us foreigners.
BTW, never eat the sausage in China.....
Asking for a Paypal 'gift' payment when offering, or paying for goods or services using the 'gift' category is a violation of your Paypal Agreement.

Sorry that you were taken. It's rumored that there are several counterfeiters selling cables on Audiogon, including one who sells Acoustic Zen cables, but AFAIK the Zen counterfeiter has not been named.
Add in Audioquest. The kind that come in a zip-lock bag, from a seller with seemingly unlimited supply.
AQ had a very ho-hum, non-response when contacted.

XLONaming these recognized manufacturers may have been part of his cover to support his legitimacy. However, in my mind, ALL are suspect.

Sales of fraudulent merchandise should be reported to the Federal Trade Commission. Also the Attorney General of your State, and the A.G. of the seller's State.
All fraud should be prosecuted.
