This is to let everyone know here of an individual that goes by the moniker usarmy238. He was selling a Cayin integrated TA-30 in the classifieds. After we agreed to a deal and I sent him a $500 payment on August 28, 2011, the individual in question stopped responding to my emails and i'm yet to received the amplifier. His name is Rafael Angel Perez and he lives in Long Island, NY.
If anyone knows this individual's whereabouts please contact me as soon as possible. At first we thought he went on a trip and forgot to ship the amp but that does not appear to be the case now. Right now I have a claim pending with Paypal. Any information regarding this individual is highly appreciated.

Hopefully the mods seen this and ban the guy. paypal does work when used properly.
He had a Mastersound amp on the AA classifieds for a very attractive price, but no feedback and he could not send me pictures, the one in the ad being harvested off of the net. When I was candid about my concerns, he gave me a link to another user name that he said was formerly him.
After over 100 transactions on Audiogon, I don't mind wading in from time to time, but this water was just too deep for me. I bid him a fond goodbye.
I think that anyone can cheat me, they just can't be lazy about it. Rafael just didn't want to work hard enough.
After all these years and with over 80 transactions in eBay and more than 30 in Audiogon I have to admit, I trusted the guy since I've never had any problems before.
I just got an email from Paypal notifying me they ruled in my favor and that $500 have been deposited in my account. Thank you very much to the people of Paypal for the work they did in my case.

I'm not sure exactly how Paypal do it but I had to wait 10 days after filing the claim. It could be his bank account or credit card. All I know the money is being transferred to my account and that's the end of it. I was feeling pretty stupid during the whole time.
You shouldn't! You did what you were supposed to do, you paid via PayPal. ALWAYS pay with PayPal and/or a credit card. Just make sure that you meet the requirements for being protected. It's unfortunate that I have to write this, but a buyer must have recourse otherwise you are at the mercy of the seller.

I was under the impression that outside of eBay, on a site like audiogon, paypal may make a 'ruling', but you're pretty much on your own and it's symbolic only.Is that not true anymore? I bought $400 worth of equipment a while back (last year) that arrived nonfunctional... Disputed with PayPal and was told that because it was outside of eBay, they could essentially shake their finger at the guy but could not get my money back. They told me to send the equipment back, with tracking #; which I did, and they decided in my favor and told him to send the $ back, but he didn't respond. It was basically up to him to obey the ruling or not.
If this has changed, then I'd feel more confident using paypal going forward. I could see the rationale behind their position, though; PayPal probably doesn't want to get in a dispute over say, two neighbors and a lawnmower, or something.

You are probably right about Paypal. That's why I qualified my post with "Just make sure that you meet the requirements for being protected." If there's any doubt, pay with a credit card. If the seller doesn't take them, pass on the deal.
