Got an e-mail just now..... Bye Tidal....
I prefer Qobuz anyway....
Follow Ups:
Email from Tidal:
Wow, hadn't seen that. It's the reason I keep Tidal
I'm a veteran, but never had Tidal.
What was the cost of Tidal with the veteran discount?
I read that the new hi-res tier on Tidal is $11 per month. Is this amount more or less than the previous monthly cost with veteran discount?
With current streaming prices, $11 doesn't appear out of line.
It was $6.... The $11 is not out of line either. But I've already got Qobuz, which I prefer. The only reason that I kept Tidal was that it was so cheap.... So, out it goes ............
Apparently Tidal is doing some across-the-board restructuring of its pricing framework, at least in Europe. The US may be soon to follow, so the vet discount may be getting caught in the fallout.I ran Tidal for several years, then added Qobuz when it became available in the US and eventually let go of Tidal. It could have gone either way. I steered clear of the whole MQA controversy, which was a tempest in a teapot, IMO. MQA sounded pretty good to me, but no better (or worse) than 24/96 on Qobuz. What swayed me was that my wife, a passionate lover of music and good sound, finally got fed up with Apple Music and decided she wanted to give it a try. Qobuz Duo was less expensive than the Tidal equivalent.

Are you going this year? --- We're going for one day for sure. We have our Rolling Stones tickets already... I hope Mick and the Boys can 'Hang on' for another couple months.....
I'm definitely going, can't miss it. It's overpriced, overcrowded, hot, and muggy, but still one of this country's greatest cultural events. Should be on every music lover's bucket list to attend at least once.
I'll probably skip the Stones day unless somebody gifts me with a ticket (it happens). It will be historic, but it's going to be a zoo. Maybe the last opportunity to see the band. They have so may ties to New Orleans, there is sure to be a surprise guest or three at that show. I'll just have to live with my memories of having seen them at their peak 50 years ago (and a few times since).
My favorite day is first Thursday, when the crowds are a bit more manageable and locals get a nice discount. We ride bikes and park 'em behind a friend's house in the neighborhood. There are always block parties, and we're sure to run into somebody we know to hang with.
NOLA can be frustratingly third-worldish at times, but it is always entertaining.

I've only see the Stones one other time. And oddly enough it was in New Orleans at the Super Dome in 2019..... They were supposed to play at Jazz fest that year, but Mick had Surgery, so they postponed until July...
I thought the Super Dome would have awful acoustics, but I was shocked how great they sounded. The Audio/Visual Tech of the Stones show was off the charts. They had 4 large screens from Floor to Ceiling of the Band, so everything was easy to see... And they Sounded Great !!
Last year we saw Santana -- Awesome as well!

I was an early adopter of Tidal. Qobuz came later. I created a bunch of playlists from Tidal early on which are also integrated into my Roon library. But many Tidal tracks are also in Qobuz.
If I abruptly drop Tidal I will abruptly lose some tunes in my playlists. I have to spend some time searching out Tidal tunes in my playlists and replace them with the same tracks from Qobuz. Not difficult but requires a little time.
But I WILL drop Tidal soon.
I had that and several others.... Spotify etc....
MOG was my first step up from iTunes in the late aughts. I was sorry to see it go. It became Beats Music which was shortly consumed by Apple, which combined it with iTunes and morphed into what is now Apple Music.
I also experimented with Twonky around that time, my first time trying a self-hosted music server, using a Thecus NAS. That NAS was a drive eater, so I cut my losses and moved to Synology, which didn't support Twonky. I fumbled around with LMS, Plex, Minim and others until I found my way to Roon in 2015. Happiness since then.
I learned some things from the MOG experience, including a lesson about the transience of software, no matter how good it is.

I would say the 'transience' of everything today, not just software. And the lifespans are getting shorter and shorter everyday. And I for one view this as a good thing. The only thing that is constant is 'change'. I welcome it.
I tried Roon a couple times, I like a lot of what they were doing and I thought about keeping it to run in tandem with PiCorePlayer. As PcP gives you control of your raspberry Pies (Which I have a dozen of them) and has capabilities that Roon does not... But it had some issues running together, so I am firmly in the PcP camp.
Change can be a good thing if it is for the better and not simply to stir the pot. There has to be a value filter. Disruption can be a positive force, but all too often those who cast themselves as disruptors are just attention-seekers. I have little patience for that.
In 2015 Apple Music was not an improvement over MOG. Roon was and still is.

...but I had Pandora and Spotify going for a while along with early Amazon music. The neat thing about Amazon - and I don't know if they still do this - is, if you bought a CD from them that CD would automatically be available for you to stream in addition to their various other albums. If I recall, you could prioritize your own CDs for streaming vs Amazon's vast selection.

is true for Bandcamp download purchases as well. Sometimes random play that content while on the lawn tractor.
MOG was the first higher quality Music Streaming service that I remember. I used it until it went away.Link Below

That sucks! I have been using the Tidal military discount for a couple of years. Tidal hates Veterans!
