I got this working but the interface is lame. Is there a way to make it just list album art and play the songs for the album? It is dreadfully small on an ipad and a phone. Sounds good but its not exactly smart device friendly with alot of double info. Its pretty customizable so there has to be a way I am missing. Thanks to Whell for suggesting Daphile.

Got it going on another computer after one just stopped working and me wiping the ssd for daphile probably didn't help.

OK, 2:

1. Running off a usb thumb drive, does it make sense to try to use the internal drive?

2. In Material Skin how do I enable play from ram drive?

  I have it now installed on my computer. What you have to do is boot into it. Then install from the skin. Clear the drive first, then install.
  
  I have been looking around advanced settings, one is called "settings" "advanced media server settings" maybe the ram setting is there. Proxied Streaming. Not sure though.
  
  Another thing I turned off screen blanking option. It is under power settings.
  
  You can have it upsampling everything to highest available rate. It sounds great.

    Hey boogyman the ram playback is not in the settings its in the player screen. See the arrow above...it shows up in the standard view but in the material skin its not to be found see the view below:

      If you go to music folder using the file browser. Local music, in there there's a selection for internal drives. And also "ram drive", I believe you can copy a music file with the file browser to the ram drive and play it that way.
      If there's no file browser in the skin you use I don't know.
      I've been pretty happy with the default player skin.

  upper right hand corner - select the three vertical dots
  
  select interface
  
  scroll down to My Music - select the gear wheel

    Thanks. Turns out I wasn't using material skin and thought I was. Got it going and got the folder going but it is tedious because you have to do disk/folder/folder, etc. and while it solves the problem, it doesn't show coverart until you select album folder. I really want the cover art to show.
    
    The real issue is that my tagging is off on some of the artists so its displaying "Cure", "The Cure", "Cure, The" as different artists even though they are in the same folder. May be easier to just edit the tags on the offending groups.

A couple of LMS plugins need to be installed once Daphile is up and running. The Material Skin plugin is built for both mobile devices and desktop, and IMHO, provides the best interface for controlling LMS. Also, the Music and Artist Information plugin will do what it says, will give detail information about the album or track currently being played. For Daphile specific settings, I believe you will still need to use the Daphile webui.
Also, two apps available for controlling LMS - iPeng for iOS and Squeeze Ctrl for Android. I have used both but prefer using Material Skin these days.

Forget Daphile Vortexbox is a much better system. Both are based on LMS. It is a free download and will run on a simple old 32bit PC Best way to try it is by downloading the 2.4 iso from the link, follow the installation instructions. Then perform a Fedora system upgrade to take it to the current version of 2.5

    It's built on a full implementation of Fedora. It's all controlled from a web page over your network. It includes a cd ripper that fully automates the process. If you connect an external USB drive it detects it and asks if you want to backup. It does an initial whole system backup and subsequent incremental backups. It recovers properly from a restore.
    Works with LMS with all add ons including material skin (Roon like web interface) has plugins for all streaming services supports worldwide radio integration including a Bandcamp interface.
    Control from free software Squeezer on Android phone and tablet and iPeng on Mac

It auto-detected attached USB drives, and I can perform full or incremental backups at intervals that I schedule.
      4) It recovers properly from a restore. - Not sure what you mean by "a restore". I don't know if Daphile settings can be backed up and then imported after a reinstall. I guess the good news is that I've never had to try.
      5) Works with LMS with all add ons including material skin (Roon like web interface) has plugins for all streaming services supports worldwide radio integration including a Bandcamp interface. - Daphile checks these boxes with the exception of Bandcamp, if memory serves.
      6) Control from free software Squeezer on Android phone and tablet and iPeng on Mac. - Yes for Daphile on Squeezer as mentioned above. I don't think there's an iPhone/iPad app. Your mileage may vary, but I actually prefer the web interface to the app interface most of the time.

        Apparently Amazon won't publish the inerface details. It has be reverse engineered to get music to play but no metadata transfer. Details on the link below.
