Most likely dog. Cats don't extend claws when they walk.

exactly, I'm no tracker, but know that cats have retractable claws, so it's definitely a big foot using technology from another dimension to leave deceptive footprints.
the only puma tracks I have ever seen didn't include claws. As Sherlock homes espoused, the obvious answer usually is the answer.
It's why you can't hear them walk up behind you in the kitchen, when you have a pan full of hot grease in one hand and a sharp knife in the other and you trip over the cat.
BTW, the cat is always fine. You, on the other hand...
