In Reply to: RE: Explain this if you can. Storing media horizontally vs storing vertically. posted by geoffkait on March 26, 2023 at 10:17:35
Just like books and magazines. Never thought about doing otherwise. Makes it easy to pull out and replace the desired title. Any possible sonic benefit is just gravy.
Follow Ups:
Yes, you're right, it's natural to store things vertically. But some people have those CD racks that store CDs horizontally, hundreds of CDs, maybe thousands.
I can't help noticing you didn't answer my question - How can changing the orientation of a bunch of CDs have even the slightest affect on sound quality?
Funny how room reflections work with your earbuds.

I see, you're making a joke.

Storing media vertically makes it easier to pick out a specific album or CD. If they're stacked on top of each other it can be difficult to pick one from the bottom of the stack, especially with vinyl records, which are rather heavy. And that's another reason for stacking records vertically. The weight of vinyl records will very likely damage the bottom records if they're stacked horizontally, one on top of the other.
Anyway, that's my rationale for stacking vinyl vertically.
Happy listening!

What I'm saying is that storing any and all media vertically makes any disc you play *sound* better than storing the media horizontally. It has nothing to do with convenience or ease of selection.
