Storing media vertically makes it easier to pick out a specific album or CD. If they're stacked on top of each other it can be difficult to pick one from the bottom of the stack, especially with vinyl records, which are rather heavy. And that's another reason for stacking records vertically. The weight of vinyl records will very likely damage the bottom records if they're stacked horizontally, one on top of the other.
Anyway, that's my rationale for stacking vinyl vertically.

What I'm saying is that storing any and all media vertically makes any disc you play *sound* better than storing the media horizontally. It has nothing to do with convenience or ease of selection.
