@Lagav
The Cornwall is outside your budget and I haven't heard the current version, though I expect it would sound like the Forte but able to get louder.
Follow Ups:
I went to a dealer and listened to the Forte, cornwall and la scala as I am moving to a small senior place and leaving my A5s behind. My first impression was the forte had a commercial 1980's, the cornwall was better but not cigar, finally the la scala was very close to my expectations (should be for 14 grand). The all lacked "presence".
I brought an LP and CD for trail but he was having trouble connecting. He has 10 listening rooms and all are accessible to setup various inputs, amps, and speakers to audition all from his phone, however, things weren't not quite working right and most of his inputs were spotify, tidal, etc. not the best in my opinion. anyway, I did audition the above speakers. He's got someone who is going to fix his control system and I'll be going back.
@jadSince you dig Altecs but need something smaller I'd suggest the 890C Bolero which has a 10" woofer that was carefully designed to mimic the Technicolor midrange of the 515, 416 and 414. It has the motor of the 414 and a dual profile cone. I live in an apartment and use what Kwing Lee and I call a Super Santana. You get a set of Santanas (which are red headed stepchild of the big Altecs and so sell for cheap) and put a choke on the 420 Biflex at 3500 cycles. (Altec ran it full range.) Then you replace the CTS cone tweeter with a ScanSpeak horn tweeter from Madisound with a cap to turn it on at 3500. No padding needed. Sounds very good.

Hello Mats.
Hi Tom,
Love the videos. I had no idea.
Seems like a meeting is in order.
I'm ready to host.
Just have to implement a few ideas...-...-
But then again, who's gonna listen
Cheers
I would agree with Tom on the Cornwall 4. More efficient than the Forte 4 and "might" be a bit more manageable in an average size room in regard to bass. That's just a guess though. Another option that's not often mentioned are the speakers offered by Crites. Prices seem quite reasonable if one can deal with the aesthetic of a basic plywood cabinet. Once again though, no direct experience here. Maybe someone can chime in?
