Since you dig Altecs but need something smaller I'd suggest the 890C Bolero which has a 10" woofer that was carefully designed to mimic the Technicolor midrange of the 515, 416 and 414. It has the motor of the 414 and a dual profile cone. I live in an apartment and use what Kwing Lee and I call a Super Santana. You get a set of Santanas (which are red headed stepchild of the big Altecs and so sell for cheap) and put a choke on the 420 Biflex at 3500 cycles. (Altec ran it full range.) Then you replace the CTS cone tweeter with a ScanSpeak horn tweeter from Madisound with a cap to turn it on at 3500. No padding needed. Sounds very good.
