I finally started my DIY 2 way horn speakers. I bought the PE 15" knock down kit a few years ago and just finally got around to starting the pre-fit. This will have the Radian 475BP CD's and MCM 55-2963 15" woofers.
I have all the parts for the Zilch Z19 xover and will start on that build next. I have built the Zilch Z19 for another project to try it out and it is really nice and flexible.
The Xover will be housed in separate enclosures not inside the speakers.
Also I will have the Horn mounted on top of the cabinet on a sliding track for movement in and out to help with time alignment, the track once set will lock in to place and it will also have a height adjustment as well. The horns with not be in an enclosure just open like the VOT's.

This give an idea how the 2 way will look when it's done without the 15" woofer installed and veneering which will come last after all the build is done.I'm thinking doing a veneer in dark walnut color with a black see through grill. The grill will be attached via those magnet grill supports.

Congrats on your horn adventure. How many years are you allowing for the prototype and how many more for the upgrades?
Sorry that's a bit tongue-in-cheek question but sometimes these horn projects are life-long and end up costing as much as top-drawer but off-the-shelf horn system from the likes of Avantgarde.
Good luck and please keep us posted. Looks like a good start!
I already did a prototype about 10 years ago and have a good idea what I want. I was very close with the prototype. I don't want to be doing this years and years. I will do the best I can and try to get it within what I want/hear. Life is too short now to wasting too much time on a project.
This will be my last build of these and since I will be using the Z19 xover which I used before should be just some minor tweaking and then that's it (hopefully). I have a buddy that will helping out as well with the final tuning if need be.
I have the Radian 475, but I imagine one does not want to cross the 15" woofer too high?
depend on the woofer. 500-1200 Hz. is fine for many.
I also have the Radian 475 and my woofer is a Jensen P15LL.
XO at typical Altec 2 way of 1200Hz.
These DIY two way variants are da bomb. And super cheap in comparison especially with modern compression drivers. I sold a $2k vintage Altec 802B and replaced it with a $200 used Radian with no downside to my ears. I think the Radian has a bit more energy on the top which alowed me to get rid of the Altec top end booster network in the XO.
in the past with this same Z19 xover and results were very nice. My brother came over when I was letting play after i finished it. I was playing Wes Montgomery on them and he said he thought there was a real guitar player playing in the room, and he was a really good guitar player. That demo over was using cheap film caps too. but this new one will be using the Erse caps. I bought these right before ERSE stopped making them here in the USA.
So this time I will use the Radian 475 and should be enough top end that I', looking for. I heard the 475's a while back and they do cymbals and strings nicely along with vocals.
