I've listened to it a few times, and it's still a mystery. May have a go tonight.. But, I just bought a new equipment stand and am trying to sort that out.
Yeah: "()" is much more homogenous and taken as whole, I think that it builds as this hour long concept: but you've got to be in the right mood. Perhaps with having less variety, and maybe more repetition, it's more powerful??

Hi Sordid' Yeah, when I first popped on the CD I was a little taken aback. The first few tracks are a little bit of a hadge-podge, then, as you say, it turns...
I have only listened to it a couple of times as well... and may not get back to it in a hurry. Some Harold Budd (Budd rules!), Robin Guthrie, Eno, Between Interval (hmmm) etc. have arrived and some Ulrich Shnauss, Catherine Wheel, and Marconi Union are due in a couple of days... and I still have not gotten to serious listening to the Ravonettes newie (interesting, perhaps tiresome 'in a brightly reverberant hall' production) and Lou Rhodes' first. Whew... busy fun! Hmmm, I have gotta get some work done at some point too.
I am thinking of starting an ambient (not New Age!) thread, tho the stuff I am ordering is between 2 and 25 years old (not exactly 'hip')and I don't really have much knowledge of the genre (or any for that matter).

If you don't know it (and it is on at pretty unsocial times) you can listen at the RN site... ABC site...
Lots of interesting stuff and pretty obscure to boot.

Hi Dave Thanx for the tip. I did not know about that program - will definitely check it out.
I am only just getting into ambient. I have had some Eno and Budd that I like and thought it time to look into the genre a little deeper, especailly the more subtle, tuneful, organic and perhaps darker strains, starting with further look into Budd and Eno. I may extend to other 'sound scape' stuff in the near future...
Coincidentally, it was your recommendation of The Pearl by Budd/Eno/Lanois a while ago that encouraged me to give ambient another look. The Pearl is an amazing album; instantly more moving than much of the stuff I have listening to of late. I am really liking Harold Budd. Although not ambient as such, Budd's la bella vista is a subtle, minimal, emotional album. A great album - at least for me with my limited exposure to piano music. I have another Budd album on the way and will order a few more before too long.

Eric Wollo: I really recommend "BLue Sky, Red Guitars." It has no less than 3 Kraftwerk covers that are INCREDIBLE!!!
Patrick Ohearn of Frank Zappa fame became an amazing ambient artist.
For a great mix of drum&Bass and Ambient, try "selected ambient works part 2" by Aaphex Twin.
The "Just Music" label is awesome too, with Jon Hopkins, Honeyroot, and Leo Abrahams: both have played with Eno.
Fun stuff....
