I have nice pair of nice stax sr-5's with srd-6. I am thinking of ungrading one day when I of load my ESL63 speakers. Does anyone have any recomendations? I could of course follow the money trail..and go for the most expensive, altho as the top driver units are getting very pricey

... and the Blue Hawaii amp are said to be the only amps capable of driving the Stax 007 and 009 really well. Both amps cost thousands of $$$ if (or when) you can find them - it's one of the drawbacks of electrostatic headphones.

I'm simply basing my statements on informed hearsay - which anyone here is welcome to refute. The Blue Hawaii amp is based upon the design of the Stax T-2, and strangely enough, the Blue Hawaii turns out to be the most highly rated amp among those tested by Tyl Hertsens in the review you have linked us to (above). It is also the first choice of inmate "Mikel" here at AA (who can afford most any headphone amp on the planet, BTW). And, searching the archives here, you'll find that Enjoythemusic reviewer, experienced electrostatic headphone user, and AA inmate "Jon L" has posted his opinion regarding the Stax T-2 amp - which the Blue Hawaii amp is based upon...

The Stax are well regarded. The brand new SR009 is said to o be a little better than the SR007. Have heard neither of course, biding my time also.
I am watching for the supposed upcoming Sennheiser electrostatic, which is believed to be announced at CES in a week or so.
There are some great (expensive) no-holds-barred electrostatic amps available now as well.
