My DAC has inputs for USB/coax/optical so pretty flexible there. I'll research the software for Node...maybe watch some Youtube videos of it to see what it's like. I might need stronger glasses if I use an iPad vs my big computer monitor! I guess that setup would be more flexible for listening positions instead of being chained to a desk with monitor/computer.

This sounds like a simple solution and would have the benefit of a remote and use of your big monitor. Plays FLAC and has an optical out:
